The Anchored Soul – Day 14 – Silencing the Mockers

The transition in Jairus’ house was a jolt! One moment, the rooms echo with the professional wailing of hired mourners. The next, those tears instantly turn into mocking laughter. When Jesus announces that the dead girl is not dead, but sleepeth, the crowd moves from deep “grief” to absolute contempt.

This reveals a deep truth about human nature: the world’s sympathy often ends where heavenly hope begins. The mourners laughed because they relied entirely on their natural senses. They knew what death looked like, they knew it was final, and they deemed Jesus’ words biologically absurd.

Notice how Jesus handles the ridicule: He puts them all out. Jesus does not argue with the mockers, nor does He try to perform a miracle to prove Himself to the skeptics. He simply clears the room of cynicism. To experience the upcoming miracle, Jesus protects the environment of faith, leaving only the grieving parents and His closest disciples.

When you face situations that seem dead: a broken relationship, a shattered dream, or a spiritual valley, the voices around you may mock your faith. They may laugh at your prayers or call your hope foolish. Like Jesus, you must learn to “put them out.” Guard your heart against the noise of disbelief, and trust the One who speaks life into what the world has already buried.

Identify the mockers in your life and put them out.

  1. Silence the Inner Critic: What voices of past failure or self-doubt are laughing at your prayers? Commit to taking those thoughts captive immediately.
  2. Audit Your Environment: Who are you allowing into your inner circle? If your closest companions only feed your skepticism instead of your faith, it is time to establish boundaries.
  3. Protect Your “Damsel”: Whatever God has promised you, even if it currently looks dead, protect it from public scrutiny. Close the door to the noise, bow before your Father, and wait for the voice of Jesus to say, “Arise.”

Ultimately, the miracle in your life isn’t dependent on the world believing it’s possible; it is dependent on the One who is standing in the room with you. Today, take a look around your spiritual circle. If the voices of doubt, skepticism, or past failures are crowding out your hope, follow the Master’s example and clear the room. Shut out the noise of disbelief, look only into the eyes of your Saviour, and get ready. He is about to speak life into the very areas the world told you to bury.
