The Anchored Soul – Day 22 – The Anchor for a Wandering Mind

Our minds are incredibly active places, but too often, they become a courtroom where we put our own past mistakes on trial. We replay that old conversation, rewrite that failed decision, and mull over the regrets we can no longer change. It’s an exhausting cycle, trying to fix yesterday with the anxiety of today. But the truth is, you cannot alter a single second of what has already happened.

Isaiah 26:3 offers a beautiful escape hatch from this mental treadmill. God doesn’t promise peace to the person who has a perfect past, but to the person whose mind is “stayed” on Him. To stay your mind means to anchor it … to fix your thoughts so deeply on God’s character that your past can no longer drag you under. When we constantly revisit old mistakes, we are essentially trying to play God, assuming that if we worry enough, we can somehow mend the broken pieces. True peace comes when we finally hand those matters over to Him. Oh it’s so easy to state this, but so difficult to put it into action.

God is a master craftsman who specializes in redeeming what is broken. You don’t have to hide your past mistakes or let them rob your present joy. Instead, find rest in the fact that God’s grace is big enough to work through your history. He can take your missteps and weave them into a story that brings Him glory and brings you growth.

When your mind starts to drift back into regret, pull it back. Anchor your thoughts on His goodness, His sovereignty, and His forgiveness. Leave yesterday in His hands … He is already there, working it all out for good.

Lord, I give You my regrets and the mistakes I keep replaying in my mind. I confess that I cannot change them, but I trust that You can use them for Your glory. Help me to stay my mind on You today. Anchor my thoughts on You, and let me rest in Your perfect peace. Amen.
