The Rapture – Day 4

Photography by Chris Michaud

1 Th 4:13-18  But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.  (14)  For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.  (15)  For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.  (16)  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  (17)  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.  (18)  Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Good morning! Today’s verses excite me! It is this very topic that led me to the Lord! I definitely did not want to be here when the Tribulation began! That would mean that I missed the Rapture and would have to suffer through the most horrible and difficult time to come upon the whole earth. This frightened me in a way I had never been frightened before. So grab your favor beverage, make yourself comfortable and let’s discuss these things! 🙂

Notice how verse 18 says to comfort one another with these words? Come on, Paul! How can one be comforted when there’s about to be seven years of horrible events coming to the earth? Why is Paul telling us to comfort one another? To what is this comfort referring to? The topic of these verses is the coming of the Lord. This is not referring to His coming to earth: Christ’s return to earth will be at the end of the Tribulation. This coming of the Lord refers to Christ meeting born-again believers in the air.

1 Th 4:17  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

If we are to go through the Tribulation, as proponents of Mid-Trib and Post-Trib believe, what comfort is there in that? How can we comfort one another as Paul tells us to do in 1 Thessalonians 4:18? I certainly would not be comforted knowing that with each judgment in the scroll, seal, and bowl as written in the Book of Revelation were ahead of me. There’s no comfort or solace in that – there is only fear and apprehension! So we can only comfort ourselves because we know that we will be kept from those coming judgments! The snatching of the church and taking them to the clouds to meet Christ “in the air” is going to be an event like no other. If you’re a Bible reader, you’ll remember that Enoch and Elijah never died. They were taken up by God. So this is no new occurrence.

Gen 5:24  And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

2 Ki 2:1  And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

Jesus spoke of this in:

Mat 24:36-42  But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.  (37)  But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.  (38)  For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,  (39)  And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.  (40)  Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.  (41)  Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.  (42)  Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

Will you be one of those taken or one of those left? If you are born again, be encouraged Christian! This series will lift you up and make you excited about what is happening in the world right now. We are not called to receive God’s wrath and judgment on this earth. But if you are not born again and are searching, it is no coincidence that God has placed you here for such a time as this so that you may be saved. Encouragement / Discouragement

Photography by Bob Sabo

Are you hanging on by a thread to that last ray of hope in your life? This 30-day devotional was originally done in 2006 and it is dealing with discouragement. I wanted to help believers learn how to encourage one’s self in the Lord. I hope it is a blessing to those who feel overwhelmed at times in their lives.

Morning Manna

The title to this devotional came to me when I was doing my morning devotions. I did my devotions before breakfast and realized the importance of feeding my spiritual body. We need that morning manna in order to keep spiritually focused throughout the day. This devotional was originally written in 2007 with a desire to feed my spiritual self. I hope it is a blessing to you!

Thought for the Day – Faucet Repair

~Proverbs 21:9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

~Proverbs 25:24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.

I’m sure you have found yourself at one time or another in the same room with someone with a bad temper. Your main thought is to get as far away from the contention as possible. A house cannot be big enough when it contains a woman who is ranting and raving her displeasure. Do we behave like this Proverb’s woman with our own husband?

We can try to justify our actions all we want. We can say that we are trying to make a point. We can say “He’s my husband, he needs to see how he makes me feel!” But does he really have to know exactly how you feel? If yes, does he have to hear it through screaming words?

There is nothing appealing or admirable about a woman who cannot control her anger. I once knew a woman who would throw her wedding ring at her husband during a fight and then she would storm out the door and go for a ride in the car. Is that Christ-like to you? You might say she got her point across, but did she? I doubt it. What she did get across to her husband was that she was childish and if she didn’t get her way, she would throw a fit. By the way, there are husbands who act this way as well but that’s a whole other devotional :-)

~Proverbs 21:19 It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

This speaks for itself, doesn’t it? There are quite a few verses dealing with a woman being the contentious woman. It is probably because we women are emotional creatures. Therefore, we must learn to control those emotions in a godly manner.

~Proverbs 27:15 A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.

Ugh! A continual dropping? Oh my!! I use to have a bathroom faucet that dripped like that. I could hear it in the still of the night and could NOT fall asleep!  I can see why they called this Chinese torture as a joke! It’s funny to think of but it’s not funny when a husband is stuck with a wife whose anger and brawling is compared to this annoying scenario!

If an unsaved man has a Christian wife who is like this, do you think he will be quick to come to Christ? If he is saved but disobedient to the Word, do you think her testimony will be quick to draw him back? Do you think this type of emotional outburst will allow the Holy Spirit to woo him? There is nothing Christ-like in her behavior so why should he thirst for Christ?

So what kind of testimony are we to our husband? They are watching, believe me. Are you a contentious woman? Self examination is so important to the wife of an unsaved man. Being in Proverbs daily is a good start to self examination – there is no better book for spiritual discipline. The scriptures cleanse us and keep us on track.

Our day should start with sincere prayer like Psalm 51:10:

~Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

The Lord desires to help us be in control of our tongues, our attitudes, and our actions. He desires to help us be the helpmeets we need to be, despite our husband’s spiritual condition. No, it’s not easy being married to an unbeliever. However, that does not prevent us from having a right relationship with the Lord. In fact, we are only responsible for our own spiritual condition, not our husband’s. It’s the Holy Spirit’s job to work in his heart, not ours.

Someone is always watching – including our husbands. Challenge yourself today … ask the Holy Spirit to shed light on areas that are not pleasing to Him and that are hindering your husband’s salvation or hindering his return from backsliding. Ask Him to give you your husband’s eyes so you can see how he (your husband) views you.

After all, no one wants their husband to prefer living in the wilderness than to be around them  God bless you as you strive to be sanctified and meet for the master’s use!!

Day-by-Day – Day 33 – Love

dscf0104

~Joshua 22:5 But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

The law in the Old Testament was no different that the law which Christ left for us to follow.

~Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

As a born-again Christian, our desire is to nurture our relationship with our Heavenly Father and become more like Christ. In so doing, our actions will speak and reflect this relationship. As we draw closer to the Lord, we have a desire to share that love with others. One who loves will not lie against another – one who loves will not steal from another. As a result, we are fulfilling the law that Christ spoke of: We draw closer to God and, in turn, reflect that relationship through our actions.

Day-by-Day – Day 32 – Heaven

p1010027_800x600_800x600

~2 Kings 2:11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

Elijah’s exit from earth and entrance to Heaven must have been spectacular! To think that one could be carried away in a horse-pulled chariot that were so bright they appeared as though they were on fire! I would have loved to witness that for myself!

The Word records a similar episode.

~Luke 24:51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

Again, I would have loved to be with those who witnessed this blessed event.

Some Christians will be able to experience a similar event at the Rapture of the Saints!

~1 Corinthians 15:51-53 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

~1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Praise the Lord that the believer can live in the midst of the turmoil but yet have peace because he knows the time is near, even at the door!

Day-by-Day – Day 31 – Precious Gift

<~1 Corinthians 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Those who do not have a relationship with God cannot understand the concept of God loving His creation so much that He would be willing to die for us. Therefore, when we tell others about Christ and His life, death, burial and resurrection, they think we are crazy. They think we are religious nuts with no common sense.

But to the believer, Christ’s sacrifice for us is so significant that we are brought to tears! To think that Someone would die for me despite my sinful life – despite how much I hurt Him! It shows us just how much God truly loves us!

~Romans 5:6) For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

~Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Christ died for us while we were sinners – there is nothing we can do to make ourselves “good enough” for His wonderful gift of salvation! It is free – it is priceless – it is eternal!

My son took this picture above when visiting Monticello, Virginia. As I saw the sun’s rays piercing through the rain clouds, it reminded me of God’s precious love reaching down to man through His Son, Jesus Christ. There is no place that God’s hand cannot reach – His loves reaches down to the deepest depths!

~Jeremiah 23:24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

Day-by-Day – Day 30 – Reflection

skymeetswater

~John 7:37b and 7:38 If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

As I was driving up the Oregon’s Scenic Highway 101 on my way to work this morning, I saw one of the most beautiful views since I’ve been living here. I did not take this picture but what my eyes beheld was almost exactly like it. The sky and ocean just seemed to melt together and I couldn’t tell where the ocean ended and where the sky began.

That’s the way our relationship with our Heavenly Father should be. The unsaved should look at us and be able to see God. They should not be seeing sin and worldliness, but love and Godliness. As we grow in Christ, and drink from His Word (the Scriptures), our words and actions will reflect His goodness. We should be like that beautiful picture – we should be melting into our Father and becoming one with Him.

~Ephesians 4:22-24 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Day-by-Day – Day 29 – Alone

101_1328~Psalm 142:4 I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.

How desperate a verse this is, isn’t it? The Psalmist looked around him and discovered that no one wanted to be a friend to him. There was no place for him to hide or even seek help. No one cared whether he lived or died.

But notice the next verse – the Psalmist did not wallow in self pity. Look at how he dealt with his feelings of desperation:

~Psalm 142:5 I cried unto thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living.

What a prescription for encouraging one’s spirit! A personal relationship with God is the ultimate solution for everyone. After salvation, the believer’s life is spent developing that relationship with the Lord through the changing power of the Holy Spirit – He teaches us, we submit to Him – as a result, we become more like our Father!

Day-by-Day – Day 28 -Delight

p5210018

~Psalm 37:4 Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Delighting ourselves in the Lord may sound strange to some people. However, to the believer, it is an important part of worshiping God! Noah Webster defines “delight” as:

1. To affect with great pleasure; to please highly; to give or afford high satisfaction or joy; as, a beautiful landscape delights the eye; harmony delights the ear; the good conduct of children, and especially their piety, delights their parents.

Do my actions affect the Lord with great pleasure? Do I please Him highly? Do I give or afford God high satisfaction and joy? Do my actions speak volumes and glorify God? These are all excellent questions to ask ourselves when we do moral inventory of our lives. Keeping our spiritual life and walk with God in check keeps us out of trouble. Even better, we have a promise that the Lord will give us the desires of our heart when we do so. Will our desires always be our “wants”? No! But they will definitely be exactly what we need.

“I know of no better thermometer to your spiritual temperature than the intensity of your prayer.”
Charles Haddon Spurgeon
