Day-by-Day – Day 29 – Alone

101_1328~Psalm 142:4 I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.

How desperate a verse this is, isn’t it? The Psalmist looked around him and discovered that no one wanted to be a friend to him. There was no place for him to hide or even seek help. No one cared whether he lived or died.

But notice the next verse – the Psalmist did not wallow in self pity. Look at how he dealt with his feelings of desperation:

~Psalm 142:5 I cried unto thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living.

What a prescription for encouraging one’s spirit! A personal relationship with God is the ultimate solution for everyone. After salvation, the believer’s life is spent developing that relationship with the Lord through the changing power of the Holy Spirit – He teaches us, we submit to Him – as a result, we become more like our Father!

  1. What a lovely devotional! How beautifully explained! How uplifting to read this today! Thank you dear sister.
I came to your blog through Valerie. I just recently found her blog. I am surrounding myself with uplifting sisters in the ministry, as we are beginning a church in N. Spain and I am fairly new at being a Pastor´s wife. (we have been here in our current city for almost 4 years but the work is slow.) I feel so unprepared. Praying for wisdome and guidance.
Praising God for bringing me here today. :)
    God bless you!

  2. Oh Dani, what a lovely post! I’m so glad we found each other! I will be praying for your ministry in Spain! It must be so hard to be a Pastor’s wife! I will be praying for that as well :-) God bless!!!

  3. Thanks for praying! I posted a link to your devotional blog on my blog. I visit as often as I can. I am hoping to post once every week something from my quiet time. originally I was very against blogging. I wanted to keep my pen and ink journaling style. I am still doing this but I have found blogging so positive. (except when I get caught up in it)
I love the pictures you choose too for your posts. It seems to take me to that quiet place where I love to have my quiet time.
