Light in the Last Days – Day 13

Photography by Bob Sabo

I’ve found our study on the Rapture incredibly encouraging. Looking back to when I first discovered this truth, I saw it as a wonderful expression of God’s grace toward His own. While the unsaved face a future of divine wrath, His children are offered a magnificent hope.

Unbelievers are under the influence of the ‘spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience,’ led by the prince of the power of the air. We see the fruit of this influence across our society today. The fact that Fairfax County, Virginia, recognized Transgender Day on the same day in 2024 we celebrated the Resurrection of Christ highlights the growing depravity of our age. This isn’t just a cultural shift; it is a biblical sign of the end times as outlined in 2 Timothy 3:1-9, calling us to a greater boldness in our faith.

Shifting our focus back to the Rapture itself, we have to address the most debated aspect: its timing. Though many believers who hold to mid- or post-tribulation theories have tried to discredit the pre-Tribulation Rapture, the specific timing revealed in the Word stands firm against those challenges.

Remember, the Old Testament revolves around God’s plan for Israel and the impending judgment, not the Church age. Interestingly, the Church is notably absent from the Book of Revelation from chapter four onwards, immediately following this verse:

Scripture presents a striking difference between the timing of the Rapture and the events of the Tribulation. While Matthew 25:13
describes an arrival at an unknown time, Revelation 12:6 gives us a precise count of 1,260 days for Israel’s protection in the wilderness. This specificity in Revelation points to a scheduled period of judgment that differs from the imminent call of the Church.

The 1,260 days begin when the Antichrist stands in the Temple and declares himself to be God!

This 1,260-day timeframe represents three and a half years—the halfway point of the Tribulation—which aligns perfectly with the prophetic timeline found in the Book of Daniel.

To understand the end times, we must see the Rapture and the Tribulation as separate occurrences. The Lord protects the Church from the Tribulation because that specific time of trial is meant to lead Israel to her Messiah. This period, known as Daniel’s 70th week, returns the focus to Israel after the current ‘pause’ for the Church. Transitioning into the seven most difficult years the world has ever seen offers no hope to those without the Savior; it is a time of judgment, not comfort.

How can believers find solace in a future of martyrdom and divine judgment? They can’t—which is why the command in 1 Thessalonians 4:18 to ‘comfort one another’ points to a pre-tribulation rescue. Paul’s teachings in 1 Thessalonians are overwhelmingly positive, with an encouraging word about the Lord’s return woven into every chapter. Don’t just take my word for it; read and study these scriptures to see the magnificent gift God has prepared for you.

Does this excite you, reader? It surely does me! But to the one who is not saved, it is a different story. Friend, it is no coincidence that God has placed you here for such a time as this so that you may be saved. Light in the Last Days – Day 3

The topic of the Rapture really excites me and it stirs my spirit! God does not leave His children to despair during these times of what is happening in and around the world today. The times are changing so rapidly, and there’s fear in the hearts of mankind: fear of the unknown! When is the next pandemic going to happen, and where is it going to lead us? Are we going to remain hostages in our own homes, cut off from friends and family, longing for the freedom to gather and share? Are people going to be restricted from purchasing even the basic necessities of life if they are not vaccinated, or if they don’t convert to digital currency? Will citizens lose their freedoms in order to corral them, living in a society that prioritizes control over its citizens? Americans, and the world for that matter, have no idea what is to come, and that uncertainty can be paralyzing. But the born-again Christian isn’t looking to this world for his hope. We look to Christ, who is our anchor in the storm and offers us peace amidst chaos! Why? Because in Him, we find assurance that no matter the challenges we face, our hope and future are secure in His hands. Let’s look and see, as we reflect on the promises found in His Word, which guide us through this tumultuous journey.

The Rapture is an event that will definitely happen, ushering in a significant moment in a biblical timeline. The timing of the Rapture is uncertain, yet the event itself is most surely going to occur, as affirmed by various scriptural prophecies throughout the Bible. This is why it is considered to be imminent, creating a sense of urgency and anticipation among believers. Historically, the Thessalonians were so eager for this event that they mistakenly thought it had already happened, leading to confusion and concern within their community. In response to this misunderstanding, the Apostle Paul precisely addresses their fears in 2 Thessalonians, giving them understanding about the sequence of events and reassuring them that they have not missed this precious moment in God’s plan. This exchange emphasizes the importance of understanding the teachings surrounding the Rapture, as it serves to strengthen the faith of those awaiting this blessed event.

However, the Scriptures below tell us that it is as definite as Christ’s resurrection, which stands as the most pivotal events in the Christian faith. This miraculous occurrence reassures believers of their own salvation and eternal life. Without Christ’s resurrection, one would have no hope of redemption or assurance of the promises laid out in the Scriptures! The resurrection not only confirms Christ’s divine nature but also revitalizes our faith, giving us strength and courage to face life’s challenges, knowing that we are anchored in a truth that is unshakeable and everlasting.

It is the Word of God! Paul taught them about the Rapture and God saw fit to include this topic in the Bible through His Holy Spirit. (John 14:26) Friend, Christ does not leave us hopeless! He left us with His Word to encourage us during these end times! In fact, the teachings about the Rapture serve as a ray of hope, reminding us that we are not abandoned in our struggles but rather guided by the Word’s assurance. If we are blessed enough to be alive at the time of the Rapture, we will not see death! This promise offers unbelievable comfort and joy to believers, sparking our faith with the expectation of a glorious reunion with Christ and all those who have gone before us. How exciting is that! The prospect of witnessing this momentous event should inspire us to live righteously, sharing the love of God and the good news of His grace with others in our communities.

Every single detail in God’s Word will be fulfilled.

It is said that 6,000 prophecies in the Bible, and roughly 70% of those prophecies have occurred without failure or error. This reveals to us the remarkable accuracy and reliability of God’s Word throughout history. The remaining nearly 30% will be fulfilled because God’s Word in Matthew and Luke above say so, offering believers a profound hope and assurance for the future. The Church experienced God’s mercy and grace by providing a Saviour, which was a fulfillment of God’s promises. However, amid this grace, God’s judgment must still take place because it is part of His Word, reminding us of His holiness and righteousness. He magnifies His Word above His name and it should guide us to live in accordance with His will while eagerly anticipating the promises yet to unfold.

This truly defines how important every single thing in God’s Word and it must be fulfilled! The Rapture is no different. The Rapture is only for those who are truly born-again and live according to the Scriptures. To the one who claims he is a Christian but does not separate himself from sin, he is not a true believer. If he is disobedient to the Word, then he is considered a part of the children of disobedience.

Anyone can believe in God – in fact, the devils believe in Him, but that does not make them saved! In fact, they tremble! Their belief is rooted in fear and acknowledgment of His power, yet it does not lead them to repentance or a genuine relationship with Him. Many people casually claim faith without understanding what true belief actually is. Just as the demons shudder at the very thought of God’s holiness, so too should humanity recognize that mere belief is not enough. I was raised in a religion that recognized the Trinity but did not talk about being born again. True salvation requires a heartfelt conversion and a commitment to live in accordance with His will. The difference lies in how one chooses to respond to that belief.

Check your hear! If you have indeed been born again, you will strive to live the Christian life according to the Bible. If you are not, sure, make sure! If you know that you are not living according to the Bible, then you are considered as part of the children of disobedience. A born-again believer walks after the Holy Spirit’s influence. This is why the Church will not be experiencing the Tribulation’s wrath of God.

If you are a born-again Christian and have never studied this out, I hope you are blessed by it and encouraged in your heart. If you are not born again, I urge you to settle the matter right now! Friend, it is no coincidence that God has placed you here for such a time as this so that you may be saved. Do Not Be Afraid – Day 11

In this book of the Bible, God commissions Joshua to take the place of Moses and lead His people into the Promised Land. It would be a mission of great significance and divine purpose. Joshua has been by Moses’ side for years, witnessing the miraculous work of God, experiencing His provisions, and seeing the way Moses led the people firsthand. Now, as he is put in charge of all these people, he faces an enormous challenge that is anything but easy. There may have been some trepidation on Joshua’s part because in this chapter alone, God tells Joshua not to be afraid and to have courage. With around two million people who had crossed the Red Sea with Moses, Joshua must have felt that this immense responsibility was daunting. He was now charged not only to lead them into a new land filled with opportunities but also to guide them spiritually and strengthen their faith in God. We don’t stop to think about how Joshua must have felt. The weight of leadership must have pressed heavily on Joshua’s shoulders as he prepared to embark on this journey, knowing that the destiny of an entire people rested on his guidance and leadership.

Isn’t it just like the Lord to encourage us when we are about to embark on a difficult mission in our lives? In those moments of uncertainty and fear, we can sense His presence, reminding us that we are never alone. He is such a compassionate God, full of love and understanding for our struggles, and He never fails to provide the strength we need. As we face challenges, His whispers of comfort and reassurance echo in our hearts, instilling hope and courage to persevere through our difficulties. In every trial, He continues to be our steadfast Father, ensuring us that we can rise above our limitations and trust in Him.

What are you struggling with today? If you’re God’s child, He knows and desires to show you that He is there. If you are not His child, please follow this link and it will show you how you can be.

Do Not Be Afraid – Day 9

As born-again believers, the Bible says that we are now considered to be children of God. This transformation signifies not just a change in our status with God, but a personal relationship with our Creator. As His children, we can rest assured that we will not go hungry, as our Heavenly Father knows our needs even before we do, and He delights in providing for us. Whether in times of abundance or scarcity, His promise to provide remains steadfast, and we can draw upon our faith to trust that we will always be taken care of with His divine wisdom and love. Through prayer and reliance on His Word, we can experience the peace that comes from knowing we are cherished and supported in every aspect of our lives.

We no longer have to be afraid of what food will be on the table when there’s too much month left after the paycheck has come and gone. The Lord has given us promises that we can actually “take to the bank”! I once heard a personal account of this very thing from a Pastor. While he was in Bible college, his family of four found themselves in this very predicament, facing the harsh reality of insufficient resources. This poor man must have been discouraged! He must have wondered if he made the right decision about going to Bible college and depriving his family of food. They gathered around the dining table and said grace over empty plates. Just as they finished praying, a miraculous thing occurred: there was a knock at the door. When he opened the door, he was astonished to find bags of groceries piled at his doorstep, and no one in sight. God answered their prayers at the most crucial moment, reminding them that faith can lead to unexpected provisions just when you need it the most. This experience not only fortified his family’s belief but also served as a testament to the power of faith in overcoming life’s challenges.

God provides for His children in countless ways, ensuring that their needs are met both in times of abundance and scarcity. One never has to wonder about what comes from the Father, as it is a promise woven into our faith; we see it all through Scripture. We are children of the King, and just as royalty never goes hungry, we can rest assured that our spiritual and physical needs are tenderly cared for. Each day, we experience His grace and mercy, which remind us of our worth and belonging in His family. In His presence, we find reassurance that we are never alone in our struggles; instead, we are loved by a loving Father who desires to pour out His blessings upon us abundantly.

A Mother’s Heart – Day 9 – Bitterness

Bitterness … it is one of the hardest emotions to overcome, often festering quietly within our hearts until it manifests in destructive ways. We see it rear its ugly head in the form of demonstrations all around the world, where anger and resentment boil over into public displays of discontent. Unfortunately, those who hang around bitter people become bitter themselves, as the pervasive nature of negativity can seep into one’s own outlook on life and relationships. You are who you hang around with, as the saying goes, highlighting the profound impact that our social circles have on our emotional well-being. But the Bible was the originator of that saying, emphasizing the importance of surrounding oneself with godly influences. When you put two people together, one will influence the other, for better or worse; thus, it’s crucial to choose companions who uplift rather than drag us down. Only by breaking free from the chains of bitterness can we find true joy and fulfillment in our lives.

Grace and kindness are forgiving while bitterness seeks to hurt. It nestles itself in the deepest part of the heart, infecting it with venom that spreads through thoughts and actions, clouding the mind and darkening the spirit. The only anti-venom is salvation and the work of the Holy Spirit in one’s life. He restores peace, helping to heal wounds that bitterness has caused, providing a gentle reminder that love can triumph over resentment and that healing begins with forgiveness. However, could it be that it isn’t your prodigal who is bitter but you, harboring unrecognized resentment and anger? Beware! This internal bitterness can lead to a vicious cycle, affecting your relationships and robbing you of joy, making it essential to break free from its grasp. It is crucial to examine your heart and seek true forgiveness, not just for others, but for yourself as well. It’s a journey that involves deep introspection and the courage to confront uncomfortable truths. If it is your prodigal who harbors bitterness, know where it comes from because we are dealing with the enemy.

Most of our prodigals claimed salvation, some at a very early age, much like my own prodigal son, who once displayed his faith and a budding relationship with God. But once he got out on his own, he abandoned the godly principles he was raised on, choosing instead a path that strayed far from his upbringing. Did salvation truly take root in his heart? The evidence suggests otherwise, as his spiritual fruit does not bear witness to a life transformed by grace. Instead, he bears the fruit of the father of this world, the father of lies, enriching his life with deceit and a disregard for the values, reflecting a stark contrast to the teachings that were instilled in him during his formative years.

The enemy would love nothing more than to destroy your family altogether, targeting not just the physical bonds but also the emotional and spiritual connections that hold you together. This is why we as mothers of prodigals must stand firmly in the gap and be intercessors for our loved ones who have strayed. We must pray fervently, just as Elijah did when he implored God to defeat Baal and restore the people to the truth. The devil takes on many deceptive forms; sometimes, he appears even as an angel of light, masking his true intentions, while other times his intentions are not masked but quite obvious. Don’t be surprised if your prodigal is led astray in search of fulfillment, trying to find peace through religious cults that promise solace but deliver only confusion and heartache. The enemy is a master of lies and a great deceiver, of this there is no doubt! It is essential that we remain vigilant, steadfast in our prayers, and unwavering in our faith, knowing that God is greater than any obstacle or deception the enemy puts forth.

Be encouraged, mothers! God is at work and His Spirit is working in your prodigal’s life just as He did in yours prior to your salvation. God’s Word promises not to go out void into nothingness. God will accomplish His will!

A Mother’s Heart – Day 3 – Turned Hearts

Weddings are such a joyous occasion! 💜 We welcome a daughter-in-law or a son-in-law into the family and we as parents now have an additional child! What a blessing that is!!! But sometimes what starts off well, doesn’t continue well. Our children’s spouses play an important part of the family dynamics. Oh, that all daughters-in-law were like Ruth, or sons-in-law like Joshua. For those mothers who have raised their children in church, you understand that your sons will leave and cleave to their wife. This is a commandment ordained by God, representing the proper order of marriage as designed in scripture. The Hebrew word for “leave” is “‛âzab,” which means to loosen or relinquish; it indicates a purposeful transition rather than a careless departure. It is important to understand that this does not imply abandoning one’s family but rather it signifies the important step of leaving one’s parent’s home with the intention of establishing a new, independent family unit. In this journey, sons are called to become leaders in their own homes, creating a loving and guiding environment for their wives and future children. This directive from God encourages not only emotional maturity but also a deeper commitment to their marital relationships, reinforcing the sacred bond of unity that marriage represents. By embracing this calling, they honor both their families of origin and the new families they are entrusted to build.

Christian parents pray that they have raised their sons to be godly leaders in their family and praying that what they have taught their children is deeply rooted. However, as life unfolds, some marry a woman who manages to subtly change the son’s heart, especially when it comes to spiritual matters and priorities. It may not be intentional on her part, but merely a by-product of her upbringing. This influence may sometimes lead them away from their upbringing, creating a divide between the values they were taught and the new beliefs they adopt. A prime example of this is seen in the life of Solomon, who, despite God’s explicit warnings that this would occur if he allowed foreign gods into his home, found himself enchanted by the very practices that contradicted his faith. Solomon’s story serves as a warning, illustrating the profound impact that relationships can have on one’s spiritual journey and the importance of staying true to one’s beliefs amidst external pressures.

It is so important for our adult children to marry within the faith, as this foundational choice shapes their spiritual journey and the dynamics of their family life. Being unequally yoked goes against Scripture, as emphasized in 2 Corinthians 6:14-15: “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (15) And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?” These verses emphasize the significant spiritual differences that can arise when faith is not aligned. I know quite a few women, me included, who were saved after they were married, and their husbands did not follow suit soon thereafter in salvation, creating a spiritual division in the household. The children are then raised in two contrasting “spiritual atmospheres”: a godly mother who strives to instill Christian values, and a worldly father whose beliefs and actions are significantly different. This double life often leads to confusion for the children, as they struggle with differing perspectives on morality, spirituality, and life choices. It is our hope that through guidance, prayer, and open communication, these challenges can be worked out, ensuring that our legacy of faith is upheld in their generation. We pray that what we have taught our own children, will return to their memory before it’s too late for their own children.

But what about the mother whose son has married a woman who is trying to destroy his connection with his parents, or vice versa? She is jealous of the beautiful connection and relationship her husband has with his mother. I have a dear friend who is living this trial, and it has been going on for two or three years! Truths are twisted into lies, and after a while, her son’s heart has been turned against those who have loved and nurtured him from the beginning. It is a heartbreaking situation that can leave parents feeling helpless and confused. She loves the Lord and relies on Him to open doors. She used to hear from her son daily and now not so much as a call or text. Her mother’s “rug” has been pulled from underneath and has left her in turmoil! What is she to do? Only the Lord can heal this broken heart.

Mothers struggle with the thought of their son abandoning their relationship. If at all possible, when there are sincere opportunities to correct the matter with the truth, it is important to seize those moments wisely. However, I believe it is crucial to remember that it is never good to interfere between a man and his wife. He is obligated to put her needs, and the needs of his family, first. Rather than trying to “get even” or insert your comments/feelings that may only escalate tensions, it is far more beneficial to pray for their marriage. Seek to intercede on their behalf, asking the Lord to work in their hearts to return to Him, and to reconcile where there seems to be only division and strife. In moments of frustration, turning that energy into prayer is the most powerful and loving response a concerned parent can offer. The verse that comes to mind about interfering or inserting my views where the Lord may not want me to is:

Granted this verse speaks of butting into someone else’s business. But I view opinions shared by my child and his spouse as their business, not mine. If I inject my feelings where they are not welcome, I will reap push back on their part. I am not talking about standing firm on the Bible and its teachings. I’m talking about family dynamics where there are differences of opinion. But when it comes to spiritual matteres, sometimes we have to cut ties, or limit fellowship, with our children because they have turned so far away from God that it’s impossible to overlook the sin. I have a friend whose son is a homosexual and wanted to visit her from out of town with his “friend.” She could not in all good conscience allow them to stay with her without it seeming as though she approved of their lifestyle. She told her son about her conviction. They did meet at restaurants and she always strived to talk about the Lord and His forgiveness.

Each situation is different. We need to remember to practice the spirit of forgiveness and to extend grace. But if there is conflict, it is best to deal with your own child one-on-one and speak your mind. Christian parents must be careful to keep their testimony for Christ in such cases: even when it’s our own children! We never know how we will affect the upbringing of our grandchildren.

We are all different and we are beautiful creations of God, made in His image. Not one of us is the same, and we all have our own unique makeup, designed and crafted by His loving hands! It is essential to embrace this truth, for our differences are a reflection of God’s creativity and genius. We must remember that as much pain as this is to us mothers, God is working in the background, working out hope and healing that we may not always see at first. In moments of despair or uncertainty, take comfort in knowing that God hears your prayers and understands your heart’s cries. Pray fervently for His intercession in that spouse’s life, for even the smallest whisper of faith can move mountains. Forget the lies that are being spoken about you; the more you dwell on them, the more pain you’ll be in. [Picture the enemy standing behind you, whispering in your ear and reviewing all the lies said about you.] Fill your mind with godly things, not the things of this world. (Colossians 3:2)

Foremost, pray for salvation if it is needed, as the gift of eternal life is the most crucial point of all. If the spouse is saved, seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance and influence in their home, trusting that His presence can transform lives and relationships. Remember, nothing is impossible with God, for His power knows no bounds and His love can penetrate even the darkest of hearts. Keep your faith unwavering, and let your prayers rise like incense before Him, for He is always listening and ready to act. He delights in our prayers because it reveals our need for Him and His perfect will for our lives.

In the meantime, switch your thoughts from this heart-wrenching situation to your own spiritual growth and well-being. If you are not able to resolve the conflict with conversation, then it is out of your control, amen? I am in this situation at the moment, feeling the weight of that silence that speaks volumes. Our son will not allow any form of communication, and so we are totally cut off from the joy of his presence and the warmth of our once-close relationship. Some days bring a new wave of longing and questions that linger in the air, unanswered. Those days must be turned over to the Lord or the enemy will have his way with your thoughts. Is it due to his wife interfering? Maybe, but we can’t be certain, and that uncertainty adds to the pain. We know he harbors horrible memories of his childhood, whether they are fact or exaggerated memories, and that realization brings a heavy heart. All we know is that we are no longer a part of his life, and it feels like a vacuum where love and connection used to thrive, leaving us grasping at those fragments of the past. This is their wish, not ours; it is out of our control. Jesus promises us that He is near to the broken hearted (Psalm 34:18). He knows what you are going through! He’s not hiding in the shadows or behind a curtain. He knows you!

Navigating through this emotional labyrinth (yes, I mean labyrinth) is difficult and often feels like walking on a tightrope of grief, confusion, and hope. If this is the same with you, then it is out of your control as well. Remember, though, that focusing on your own healing and finding peace within can be a vital step in learning to accept the circumstances, no matter how challenging they may be. It took me months to learn this; I wish I had learned it earlier so I could have avoided the tears! It is essential to engage in self-care practices that nourish your soul, such as meditating on favorite Bible verses, journaling, or even seeking support groups where others understand your struggles. The journey towards understanding and acceptance often leads us to rediscover ourselves in ways we never expected! This trial will reveal strengths we never knew we had and forge paths toward healing.

Remember, you’re not in this alone! The Lord promises us that we will get through this! Get in the Word and let the Scriptures bring refreshment in the midst of your difficult season!

I will share the verses below each day, so we remember Who is working behind the scenes and in our own lives. He loves you so glorify, bless and praise His Name:

Balancing Fear With Love – Re-Post

Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. (Psa 2:11)

Where is the fear of the Lord today? The “love” gospel is so prevalent in today’s churches that the people have forgotten that this same God who loves, also judges sin. Yes, we are forgiven of our sins but we will still be judged here on earth for the sins we commit. I’ve seen time and time again a born-again teenager making the wrong decision and suffering the consequences of that decision. A wayward Christian teenage girl gets pregnant – the baby will always ever be a reminder of that sin. The wayward Christian teenage boy who hangs out with the wrong crowd and is arrested for armed robbery – waking up each morning in a prison cell will ever be a reminder of that sin.

Where is the fear of the Lord today? Are we so smug in our religiosity that we think God will not punish us? Yes, our eternal punishment has been taken away because of Christ’s precious work on the cross! Thank You, Lord! Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. (Gal 6:7) Do you really think that you can continue with your pet sins and not be punished? Are you a liar? Are you an adulterer? Do you curse? Are you never happy unless you’re stirring up trouble? Are you prideful? But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out. (Num 32:23)

Would you allow your own children to go unpunished for doing wrong? If you did, what kind of children would you be raising? They know that you love them. But if you did not punish them, they would come to the realization that you did not care enough to do so. Why should it be different with the Lord? We must remember that God does love us, the Word is filled with God’s love and compassion for us. However, the Word also teaches us to fear God. The devils fear him and tremble – they know the Judge and what the judgments He can meet out.

If you do not fear the Lord, you are not growing in Christ. Today’s world bucks authority. The world was not always like this. When someone met the President or a King, there was an awesome respect and fear of that authority. Even just 50 years ago, people looked up to police officers and had a healthy fear of authority. Not so today. So much so, this same lack of fear for authority has come into the body of Christ and Christians think they are getting away with sin without fear of chastisement from God! How sad! Let me share some verses with you. May I encourage you to study on your own and develop your fear of the Lord so you can have wisdom and knowledge. Then you will be able to serve with fear and rejoice with trembling.

Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts. (2 Chr 19:7) God doesn’t have favorites nor can we “buy” our way on His favorites list by our good works, trying to sweep our sin under the rug.

And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the LORD, faithfully, and with a perfect heart. (2 Chr 19:9) You cannot fear the Lord when you continue in sin without repentance. If continuing in sin does not bother you and you are not under conviction, question whether your salvation be true.

And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. (Job 28:28 ) Fearing God’s punishment keeps us from sinning further. When we finally recognize sin at our door and run from it, we finally understand that this keeps us from God’s punishment. Remember, once we are saved we are no longer judged on where we will spend eternity. However, we will be “punished” here on earth for our sin. Don’t be fooled.

The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. (Psa 19:9) Nothing will get passed the Lord.

Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD. (Psa 34:11) Teach your children that the same way you punish them for doing wrong, God will punish them also. Our homes are a “proving ground” where we are to teach our children this healthy fear of the Lord.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever. (Psa 111:10) Notice the “good understanding” – those who fear God have wisdom and understanding – they know to stay away from sin because they know what will happen otherwise. Isn’t it the same with our children? If our child lies and gets punished accordingly, the child won’t be quick to do it again. As the child is trained, he gains wisdom and understanding on how his parents will react to his wrong doing.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Pro 1:7) Are you continuing in your sin, thinking you’ve gotten this far without being punished? Ah, you are the fool. You are hating the wisdom and instruction from the Word which warns you of punishment to come.

For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: (Pro 1:29) Notice that hating knowledge and not fearing the Lord is a choice? One chooses not to fear God.

The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. (Pro 8:13) How does one develop a healthy fear of God? Start by hating evil, pride, arrogancy, evil ways, and a froward mouth. As you begin to hate that sin that so easily gets you side tracked, you will start learning to fear the Lord.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. (Pro 9:10) Again, this fear of the Lord produces wisdom and understanding. Over and over this is repeated – do you think God is trying to teach us something?

The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened. (Pro 10:27) What a lovely promise!

In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. (Pro 14:26) When you know you are doing right according to God’s Word, you do not fear punishment – you have a strong confidence that God’s chastisement will not fall upon you. Knowing this is comforting – we have refuge in God when we fear Him.

The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. (Pro 14:27) What a lovely picture!

Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith. (Pro 15:16) Oh how true… it is better to be poor and fear the Lord than to have riches and continuing in sin only to receive its consequences.

By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil. (Pro 16:6) As we grow in Christ, we begin to understand that when we continue in sin, God will “spank” us. Because of this wisdom we have gained, we are not so quick to sin.

Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long. (Pro 23:17) Yes, sinners seem to be having a good time. But God is not mocked, their punishment awaits them with eternity in hell. Our eternal punishment has been removed because of Christ. We’re encouraged to continue in the fear of the Lord all day long so we can avoid those spiritual spankings.

And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; (Isa 11:2) Fearing God brings rest for us – not only for our eternal souls because we got saved, but rest in knowing that as we stay away from sin, chastisement will not follow.

And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his treasure. (Isa 33:6) We all have experienced the peace in our lives when we are striving toward righteous living. We also have all experienced the unrest in our hearts when we are sinning. Fearing God gives us stability and strength. God says this fear is a treasure!

Take heed, my friend. Don’t let today’s love gospel fool you into thinking that because your eternal punishment has been secured by Christ that you can continue in your sin without repercussion. That is not fearing the Lord. What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? (Rom 6:1) God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? (Rom 6:2) We are suppose to be dead to sin. It does not mean we won’t sin – it means we will sin less and less as we grow in Christ. How can we be a light to an unsaved world if we are no different than they are? The world does not fear God – we are to be different. No wonder the Word has much to say about fearing the Lord.

Come, Children, Learn to Fear the Lord
Isaac Watts

Come, children, learn to fear the Lord
And that your days be long,
Let not a false or spiteful word
Be found upon your tongue.

Depart from mischief, practice love,
Pursue the works of peace;
So shall the Lord your ways approve,
And set your souls at ease.

His eyes awake to guard the just,
His ears attend their cry;
When broken spirits dwell in dust,
The God of grace is nigh.

What though the sorrows here they taste
Are sharp and tedious too,
The Lord, Who saves them all at last,
Is their supporter now.

Evil shall smite the wicked dead;
But God secures His own,
Prevents the mischief when they slide,
Or heals the broken bone.

When desolation, like a flood,
O’er the proud sinner rolls,
Saints find a refuge in their God,
For He redeemed their souls.

Give Thanks (Re-Post)

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever. (1Ch 16:34) Thank You Lord for our men and women serving our country to defend our freedoms. They give so much and yet we Christians fail to pray for them faithfully. Forgive our ungrateful hearts. May we strive to remember them daily and place them in Your care. Encourage them while they are away from their families. Place a Christian in their path who will share with them the wonderful Gospel of Jesus Christ so they, too, may experience true thankfulness for a gift so great.

O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. (Psa 105:1) Thank You Lord for my salvation! This has been the one most important life changing events in my life. My path no longer heads down the road of destruction but toward my heavenly home!

Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. (Psa 106:1) Thank You Lord for my wonderful husband! You had him picked for me even before my salvation and allowed me to marry the most wonderful man I know.

O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. (Psa 107:1) Thank You Lord for the two sons You have given us. If I could pick two sons from a line up of all sons, I would pick these two. I pray You use them for Your honor and glory.

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever. (Psa 118:1) Thank You Lord for always being with me and encouraging me along the way.

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. (Psa 118:29) Thank You Lord for sending lost souls our way!

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. (Psa 136:1) Thank You Lord for my spiritual mother, Vicky. Without her I would not be writing today. Thank You for a friendship that started when I was 3 years old and still continues. Thank You for giving us a friendship that goes beyond just being friends but being spiritual sisters as well.

O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever. (Psa 136:2) Your work is evident in all that we see and we glorify Your name for providing for us! Thank You for Your hand of protection during the hard times in our lives.

O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for ever. (Psa 136:3) Thank You Lord for using the Internet for good despite what ole slew foot tries to do. Thank You Lord for the on-line Christian friends made and the encouragement the brethren can have through it.

O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever. (Psa 136:26) Thank You Lord for allowing us to live in these wonderful end times. What exciting times they are indeed! We are grateful that we can see your Word’s prophecies being fulfilled before our very eyes. We know that Your return can be at any moment. May we be found worthy!

PRAISE GOD, FROM WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW

My Cross, My Trial (Re-post)

Psalm 100:4-5, “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. (4) For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. (5)”

As I read these two verses this morning, the first thing that struck me was that we are to enter the Lord’s presence not only with a thankful heart but we must put action to that thankfulness by saying so and blessing Him. We have so much to be thankful for, my friend!

If you are one who looks at the world with a pessimistic viewpoint, you won’t be able to see why you should be thankful. In fact, you’re reading this and saying, “Yeh, RIGHT! Easy for you to say! You don’t know what I’m going through!” Do you truly believe that you are the only one going through trials? Every believer has a cross to bear. Every last one of us has something they are going through. What makes you think that your trial is greater than someone else’s? Everyone is allowed the wonderful opportunity to deny himself and follow the Lord. In so doing, they “pick up their cross” [whatever the trial(s) of their life will be] and follow the Lord. And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. Luke 9:23 Notice the word daily? It’s not a one-time thing, my friend. Each day has its challenges and each day we must choose to take that challenge and follow Christ and His will for us.

I doubt very much any of us can say that we have been tried as much as, or even as close to, Job. If you haven’t spent time in the Book of Job, you should. You would glean so much and it would help you through your trials – especially if you are that pessimist. I know from my own experiences that each trial the Lord has allowed me to go through has built my faith in Him. The more my faith is built, the more I trust Him to take care of these trials. With that comes comfort – what’s in my heart will show on my face. The pessimist’s face reflects how he handles each trial – it’s written all over his face. He does not stop worrying or complaining. He does not spend the extra time in the Word that he so desperately needs. He does not rejoice in the midst of the trial to encourage himself. This was true of Job when his friends came to see him. They didn’t recognize him. Now I can’t say as I blame Job because the trials he went through were enormously overwhelming. However, we still have something to learn from this.

Our trials are also a testimony to believers and unbelievers alike. They can see where our trust lies through our actions. Our trials also reveal who our true friends are – we saw this so evident in Job’s own life. These friends (Eliphaz, Bildad, Zophar and Elihu) didn’t lift Job up in his time of need. We must remember that our friends are sinners like we are and will fail us from time-to-time. We must remember that we have a Friend that sticketh closer than a brother and that is Jesus Christ. (Prov. 18:24) He will NEVER fail us. Be careful as to whose counsel you get when you are in the midst of a trial. Be sure that all counsel aligns with the Word before you act on anything. I’ve learned this through experience. We are not thinking at our best when we are in the midst of trial. It is best to wait on the Lord and let Him show us what He wants us to do. (Is. 40:31) The Lord is faithful and will show you what to do, whether through the Word, the counsel of your spouse, or your Pastor, etc. HE will encourage you!

My trials have always confirmed my faith in the Lord. After reading Job, I see that God restored his earthly possessions, his health, gave him more children and God even restored his marriage. Job was struck from all sides yet look how blessed he was of God because he depended on his foundation, his faith. How much more should we? Are we tried more than he was? I don’t think so. Are we tried more than those precious saints accounted in Fox’s Book of Martyrs? I don’t think so. Yes, some of you are struggling with physical problems that seem to overwhelm you. But your trial is no greater than the dear woman who has gotten saved and yet her dear husband remains unsaved. I’ve been down that road and would never wish this on anyone. Yes, they are two different types of trials, but trials none-the-less. Each person feels as though their trial is the greater. Each person feels as though they are at the end of their rope. Don’t belittle someone’s trial to make yours appear greater. If you are doing this, you are focused on yourself, my friend, and not on the will of God.

Remember, your “cross” (your trial) is yours! It’s not more than you can handle because that would make God a cruel God and we know that He is a faithful God. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. (1 Cor 10:13) Only you can glorify God through this trial – no one else. Do you take this trial as an opportunity to bring glory to God or to wallow in self pity? Do you take this trial as an opportunity to grow in your faith or do you run from it and smear God’s precious name in the mud? The choice is yours.

Dear Lord…
Help me to always remember
What You have done for me
Each time a trial comes forward
May I be found on bended knee

Great Peace – Re-Post

Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. (Psa 119:165)

The structure of this verse is so wonderful when one takes a few minutes to meditate on it. In so doing, we receive a blessing beyond words. The Lord God tells us that we will receive abundant peace if we love His law (the Word) and nothing will be a stumbling block or an enticement to us. Strong’s defines the word “offend” as:

H4383
מכשׁל מכשׁול
mikshôl mikshôl
mik-shole’, mik-shole’
Masculine from H3782; a stumblingblock, literally or figuratively (obstacle, enticement (specifically an idol), scruple): – caused to fall, offence, X [no-] thing offered, ruin, stumbling-block.

Have there been things in life which have been a stumbling block or an enticement to you? Are you quickly able to discern what should be done? The amount of spiritual discernment one has is equivalent to the amount of time spent in the Word. The more you are in the Word of God, the less you will be coming face-to-face with stumbling blocks and enticements in your own life.

It all boils down to what your priorities are. Do you spend ten minutes in the morning doing a devotional and call that your time with the Lord? How would you like to have only ten minues of time with your spouse or your children? Would that be enough? Of course not. How much time do you spend on the internet? Is it more than the time you spent with the Lord? I’ve been in this situation and so I speak from experience. So I ask you:

Do you spend time on the internet and neglect your husband?
Do you spend time on the internet and leave your children to the television?
Is your house a disaster while you are surfing?

If so, the internet has enticed you and has become a stumbling block. There is no peace in that. Instead, you work frantically to get caught up on your chores – you’re bushed when hubby comes home so he gets what’s left over of your personality – you rush to get dinner ready – your kids are hyper because they’ve been sitting in front of the idiot box for too long and you wonder why they are uncontrollable. Priorities – priorities – priorities.

How different your day would have been if you had reversed the roles and spent more time in the Word, then your hubby, then your children, then your chores, and finally a few minutes for the internet, if any time is left. There is much to glean on the internet, however, it is a huge time waster.

So, how can we receive the abundant peace the Lord promises in Ps. 119:165? We must love His law. You cannot love what you have merely scanned over for a few minutes a day. Don’t believe me? Think of your favorite book – how many times have you read it over? You must have read it more than once because you say it is your favorite. I remember reading The Diary of Anne Frank over and over to the point where I knew what page to find a certain passage! I loved this book – and still do. However, do I love God’s Word more?

Although we have repented and received Christ as our Saviour, it cannot end there. Ten minutes a day in His Word won’t be enough to get you to the point where you “love God’s law”! Loving God’s law doesn’t come with hours of reading either. Loving God’s law is obeying it. And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. (1 Sam 15:22b) You can read the Word all day long but if you don’t obey it, your reading is in vain, my friend.

Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. (Psa 119:165) The bottom line is if you love God’s Word by obeying it, He will give you abundant peace to the point where nothing will be a stumbling block or enticement to you. Nothing? That’s what this verse says. Nothing! However, you can only claim this if you love His law and obey it!

Are you being enticed today? Are there stumbling blocks in your life? The more you’re in the Word, the less you’ll have them. It’s a wonderful cure!

BLEST ARE THE UNDEFILED IN HEART
by Isaac Watts

Blest are the undefiled in heart,
Whose ways are right and clean;
Who never from Thy law depart,
But fly from every sin.

Blest are the men that keep Thy Word,
And practice Thy commands;
With their whole heart they seek the Lord,
And serve thee with their hands.

Great is their peace who love Thy law;
How firm their souls abide!
Nor can a bold temptation draw
Their steady feet aside.
