Jeremiah 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
There is something so peaceful about sitting beside a quiet lake, especially in those early moments when everything seems still. The gentle water, the quiet surroundings, and the fisherman patiently watching his line remind me how much my soul needs those same moments of stillness with God. In the busyness of life, it is easy to keep moving, thinking, planning, and worrying—and sometimes we can become so distracted that we fail to simply sit quietly in His presence. When was the last time you did that? Yet God lovingly reminds us, “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)
I have to ask myself: Am I really seeking Him with all my heart? Or am I coming to Him while my mind is still racing with everything I need to do, everything that concerns me, and everything I cannot control? Psalm 119:10 says, “With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.” Seriously, have I sought Him with my whole heart? What a beautiful reminder that God isn’t asking for a portion of our attention—He desires our whole heart. He wants us to come just as we are, lay down our distractions, and simply be with Him.
Sometimes, I think we make finding God more complicated than it really is. He isn’t hiding from us. He isn’t distant or unwilling to hear us. “The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.” (Psalm 145:18) He is near. He is listening. He is waiting for us to turn our hearts toward Him. When we quiet the noise around us and within us, we become more aware of the One who has been right there all along.
So today, before the demands of life begin pulling you in every direction, take a few quiet moments with the Lord. Put down the phone, silence the distractions, take a deep breath, and let your heart become still before Him. You don’t have to find the perfect words. Just come with a sincere heart and seek Him. He has promised that when you search for Him with all your heart, you will find Him.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, sometimes my heart and mind feel so busy, and I confess that I can allow the cares of this life to crowd You out. Forgive me for the times I come into Your presence with a distracted heart. Help me to slow down, become still, and remember how precious it is simply to be with You. Draw my heart closer to Yours and give me a deeper desire to seek You—not just when I need something, but because I love You and want to know You more. Help me to lay my worries at Your feet and trust You with the things I cannot change. Thank You for the beautiful promise that when I seek You with all my heart, I will find You. In Christ’s precious Name I pray. Amen.
