2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, (10) And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. (11) And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: (12) That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
We live in an age where seeing is no longer believing. Remember the old saying, “What you see is what you get?” Well, today it’s more like “What you see is what you THOUGHT you were getting!” With the rapid rise of digital technology, deepfakes, artificial intelligence, and manipulated media, the line between reality and lies is increasingly blurred. It often feels as though the world is drowning in a sea of elaborate noise. We are being bombarded by daily changes in technology. Yet, Scripture reminds us that behind the curtain of modern technology lies an age-old strategy: DECEPTION.
Paul warned the Thessalonians that the spirit of the enemy works through “lying wonders” and “deceivableness of unrighteousness.” Notice the phrase lying wonders. Technology today can easily mimic reality and perform modern “miracles”—fabricating voices, creating false images, and shaping public narrative in seconds. Why do so many fall for it? Verse 10 gives us the key: “because they received not the love of the truth.”
Deception takes root when people prefer what feels comfortable, entertaining, or agreeable over what is actually true. When society chooses pleasure in unrighteousness over spiritual reality, a heart grows dull, opening the door for strong delusion. As believers, technology itself is not our ultimate enemy, but blindly consuming it without spiritual discernment makes us vulnerable. To stand firm in an time of digital trickery, we must cultivate our love for the truth. Truth is not just a concept or a fact-check; it is a person: Jesus Christ (John 14:6).
Wisdom today requires us to slow down, filter every message through the lens of God’s Word, and guard our minds against the subtle distortions designed to pull us away from Christ. Before accepting or sharing content online, weigh it against the timeless standard of God’s Word. Passionately seek Biblical truth daily so that counterfeits are immediately obvious to you. Don’t let high-tech “lying wonders” replace simple, grounded faith in God. Ask God to open your eyes to recognize that deception!
