Genesis 35:17  And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.

Although today’s “fear not” verse was not words spoken by God, we can learn from it. The verse revolves around childbirth, a miraculous journey that all mothers embark upon. Although Rachel died giving birth to Benjamin, God used Isaac’s seed as the line that our Lord would eventually come from, demonstrating how even in tragedy, we can see God’s providence. For a woman, there is nothing greater than giving birth to a child. Although bringing a child into the world brings great joy, childbirth is a time of heightened risk for a woman. I remember preparing myself physically and mentally so I would be ready to give birth; it was a journey into the unknown. I so love how God’s Word covers all areas of life, including pregnancy and childbirth. He knows exactly how to provide comfort, guidance, and encouragement during such a time of hundreds of questions. With every scripture, we gain strength, and with every promise, we find hope for the future of our children and families.

John 16:21  A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

Psalm 22:9  But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother’s breasts.

Jereremiah 1:5  Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

Isaiah 66:9  Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the LORD: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? saith thy God.

Isaiah 26:17  Like as a woman with child, that draweth near the time of her delivery, is in pain, and crieth out in her pangs; so have we been in thy sight, O LORD.

In my own life, there was no greater time of uncertainty than during my pregnancy and childbirth. The journey was filled with a whirlwind of emotions, from joy and anticipation to fear and anxiety. I am thankful that I had grown in the Lord prior to my first child, as my faith provided a comforting anchor amid the roaring waves of life. God used this time to reveal Himself to me in ways I could not even imagine, showing me the depth of His love and support when I felt overwhelmed. In those quiet moments of prayer and reflection, I found strength and reassurance, realizing that I was not alone in this wonderful experience. Each kick and movement of my baby became a testament to the miracle of life, drawing me closer to my Creator and deepening my walk with Him in ways I will carry with me forever.

The bottom line of today’s verse teaches us that despite the darkest hour, we need not be afraid. There is nothing happening on this earth that God doesn’t know about, for His omniscience encompasses every moment of our lives. He is in the midst of every area of a believer’s life, offering comfort, guidance, and support through our trials and tribulations. His providence can be seen in an unbeliever’s life as well, gently steering them towards truth and understanding, even when they may not recognize it at first. It is what drew me to Him in the first place, although I didn’t see it at the time; my heart was still searching for answers, even in my ignorance. But in looking back, I can see God’s hand drawing me to Him prior to my salvation, orchestrating circumstances and placing people in my path who would ultimately lead me to an understanding of His love and grace. This process was not just a transformation in my own life, but a testimony to the power of God’s will and the lengths He went through to reach me!
