Do Not Be Afraid – Day 8

Have you ever wanted to venture out into the unknown? Whether it be for a job or relocation, you’ve had your doubts. Jacob, now Israel, faced this very same thing. God told Joseph to bring his family to Egypt. It was God’s providence for this to happen. That same providence spoke to Israel letting him know that it was His plan for this move to take place. The reunion of Jacob and his son Joseph brought great joy. Joseph forgave his brothers and we discover God’s providence yet again. Joseph’s words to his brothers prove this out.

As a result, Israel’s seed became great under Pharoah. Years later, here comes Moses to the rescue. What began as Jacob’s household, turned into approximately 600,000 Israelite men who left Egypt, which would mean a total population of over 2 million people including women and children. What began as an act of jealousy by Joseph’s brothers turned into the formation of the great nation of Israel!

What’s going on in your life today? Are you fearful at your current circumstances? Are you afraid of what will happen tomorrow? If only we would truly take to heart when God tells us not to be afraid. The same providence in Joseph’s life exists in your life. When we are afraid, we rob ourselves of rest. We expose how little our faith is in the same God who led those great men and women of the Bible.

Jesus said that if we have faith the size of a mustard seed, we can accomplish a lot! (Luke 17:6) But like any muscle, the faith muscle must be exercised. It can only be exercised through trials and tribulations. Whatever you are experiencing today, know that God is at work in the background! Trust and have faith that He will be there through it all.
