The Anchored Soul – Day 57 – Today’s “Other” Gospel

Another gospel … In his letter to the Galatians, the Apostle Paul expressed outright astonishment at how quickly the early church was straying from the truth: “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ“ (Galatians 1:6–7). Paul recognized that a counterfeit gospel is not merely a harmless difference of opinion—it is a dangerous perversion that strips the message of salvation of its power and leads souls astray.

Today, the modern church stands at a similar crossroads, inundated with counterfeit teachings preached directly from the pulpit. In a desperate bid to accommodate cultural trends and secular ideologies, some leaders have completely abandoned biblical authority. Radical revisions of Scripture—such as blasphemous claims attributing modern gender ideology like transgenderism to the sinless, eternal Son of God—serve as striking examples of how far false teaching can stray when human ideology replaces the inspired Word of God. When the pulpit becomes a platform for social experiment rather than proclaiming truth, Christ is replaced by man’s own desires.

2 Corinthians 11:4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

Galatians 1:8-9 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Across countless sanctuaries, sermons have been reduced to motivational speeches, self-help seminars, and therapeutic affirmations designed solely to comfort without challenging. These smooth words avoid the reality of sin, bypass the necessity of the cross, and eliminate any call to repentance. They offer a hollow comfort that tickles itching ears while leaving the human heart entirely untouched by the conviction of the Holy Spirit. A message that costs nothing, demands nothing, and confronts nothing is not the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 1:23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

True conviction from Scripture is an act of God’s mercy. It is through God’s Word that we are made aware of our desperate need for a Saviour, leading us to true repentance and the enduring grace found in Christ alone. As believers, we are called to discern the spirits and test every message against the unchanging standard of God’s Word. We must reject both those heresies that rewrite the nature of God and the empty speeches that refuse to preach Christ crucified. Let us hold fast to the foundational truth of Scripture, ensuring that our faith rests not on the shifting words of men, but on the enduring power of the true Gospel.

1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
