Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
We all long for the ‘perfect peace’ mentioned in today’s verse, but for many, it feels like a distant dream. Our lives are often crowded with obstacles that bring heavy loads of worry and anxiety. But peace isn’t just the absence of trouble; it’s the presence of Christ in the midst of it. To experience it, we must be willing to clear away those obstacles that compete for our attention and make room for the stillness only Jesus can provide.
We find the solution to our anxiety not in a change of scenery, but in a change of focus. The “perfect peace” is Christ’s protection. To stay the mind is to remain steadfast, refusing to be lured into the chaotic noise of the “if only” or “what next.” When we intentionally focus on Christ’s presence, His peace encompasses our hearts. The only thing we have to do is to remove the barriers. Once removed, we simply have to remain in the One who is our peace. No condemnation or sin stands between us and our Saviour because He is our peace!
The promise of Isaiah 26:3 is not a reward for perfect behavior, but a result of a perfect reliance on the Lord. The phrase “because he trusteth in thee” reminds us that peace is the fruit of trusting God. When we stop trusting in our own ability to navigate life’s hurdles and start trusting in His power to lead us through them, the anxiety and worry begin to dissipate. This trust is our shield; it protects our minds from the weight of the world and keeps us “attached” to the only One who can bring about perfect peace.
