Iran: Parliament to discuss death penalty for converts who leave Islam

Tehran, 19 March (AKI) – In its first session since last week’s general elections, the new Iranian parliament is expected to discuss a law that will condemn to death anyone who decides to leave the Muslim faith and convert to other religions.

The parliament, also known as the Majlis, will debate the new law which has been presented by the government of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Under the proposed law, anyone who is born to Muslim parents and decides to convert to another faith, will face the death penalty.

Currently converts, particularly those who have decided to leave the Muslim faith for Evangelical churches, are arrested and then released after some years of detention.

The new legislation, which has caused concern in Iran and abroad, was proposed mainly because of fears of proselytising activities by Evangelical churches particularly through the use of satellite channels.

There has also been concern over fact that many young people in Iran have abandoned Islam because they’re tired of the many restrictions imposed by the faith.

According to unofficial sources, in the past five years, one million Iranians, particularly young people and women, have abandoned Islam and joined Evangelical churches.

Gardening, God’s Way

Plant three rows of peas:
Peace of mind
Peace of heart
Peace of soul

Plant four rows of squash:
Squash gossip
Squash indifference
Squash grumbling
Squash selfishness

Plant four rows of lettuce:
Lettuce be faithful
Lettuce be kind
Lettuce be obedient
Lettuce really love one another

No garden without turnips:
Turnip for meetings
Turnip for service
Turnip to help one another

Water freely with patience and cultivate love. There is much fruit for your garden Because you reap what you sow.

To conclude our garden, we must have thyme:
Thyme for God
Thyme for study
Thyme for prayer
Thyme for each other
Thyme for friends

Popes’ Quotes on the Subject of Mary

I found a list of quotes by various popes throughout time and wanted to compare what they said in light of the Word of God. Won’t you search the Scriptures for yourself? Who do you obey?

“Who can worthily thank thee and adequately praise thee, oh Blessed Virgin, who by thy fiat has saved a lost world.” St. Augustine

(1 Cor 1:31) That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord

(Luk 19:10) For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

“The foundation of all our confidence is found in the Blessed Virgin Mary. God has committed to her the treasury of all good things, in order that everyone may know that through her are obtained every hope, every grace, and all salvation. For this is His will: That we obtain everything through Mary.” Pope Pius IX

(1Co 3:11) For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

(Heb 4:14-16) Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. (14) For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. (15) Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (16)

“Sinners receive pardon by the intercession of Mary alone.” St. John Chrysostom

(Rom 8:34) Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

(Heb 7:22, 24-25) By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. (22) But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. (24) Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. (25)

“All those who seek Mary’s protection will be saved for all eternity.” Pope Benedict XV

(1Th 5:9) For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

(2Ti 2:10) Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

Benedict XV, Inter Sodalicia, 1918: “To such extent did Mary suffer and almost die with her suffering and dying Son; to such extent did she surrender her maternal rights over her Son for: man’s salvation . . that we may rightly say she redeemed the human race together with Christ.”

(Act 4:12) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

(1 Pe 1:18-19) Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; (18 ) But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: (19)

Pius XI, 1935, in a prayer to close a jubilee, we find the first use of the word Coredemptrix by a pope: “O Mother of love and mercy who, when thy sweetest Son was consummating the Redemption of the human race on in the altar of the cross, didst stand next to him suffering with him as a Coredemptrix.”

(Act 4:10, 12) Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. (10) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (12)

Pius XII, in a radio broadcast in 1946: “Mary, for having been associated with the King of Martyrs in the ineffable work of human Redemption as Mother and cooperatrix, she remains forever associated with him, with an almost unlimited power, in the distribution of graces which flow from the Redemption.”

(Jud 1:21, 24-25) Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. (21) Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, (24) To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. (25)

Paul VI, Christi Matri. “The Church … been accustomed to have recourse to that most ready intercessor, her Mother Mary … For as St. Irenaeus says, she ‘has become the cause of salvation for the whole human race”

(1Ti 2:5) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

(Heb 7:25) Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Pius IX, Ubi Primum, 1849: “For God has committed to Mary the treasury of all good things, in order that everyone may know that THROUGH HER are obtained every hope, every grace, and ALL SALVATION. For this is his will, that we obtain everything through Mary.”

(Heb 2:9-10) But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. (9) For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. (10)

Benedict XV, In a decree on Joan of Arc: “In every miracle we must recognize the mediation of Mary, through whom, according to God’s will, every grace and blessing comes to us.”

(Jas 1:17) Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Pius XII, Superiore Anno, 1940: “As St. Bernard declares, ‘it is the will of God that we obtain favors through Mary, let everyone hasten to have recourse to Mary.”

(Eph 2:7) That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

John Paul II, Dives in Misericordia, 1980, quoting Lumen Gentium, “In fact, by being assumed into heaven she has not laid aside the office of salvation but by the manifold intercession she continues to obtain for us the grace of eternal salvation.”

(Heb 5:9) And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

The Joy of Spring

The trees with tiny buds await the call to bloom
The robin begins to sing its melodius tune
The signs of Spring are in the air, life all anew
The daffodils swaying as the sun dries the dew

Creation applauds as Spring’s entrance is made
Announcing to all rebirth beautifully portrayed
By the hand of the Master Creator on high
He whispers His love through His beauty divine

This new birth spills forth to mankind through His grace
Salvation is free to all and their sins are erased
A new life in Christ where old things have all passed
Born again of the Spirit, reconciled at last

A Little Nostalgia

Dirt Roads
— By Paul Harvey

What’s mainly wrong with society today is that too many Dirt Roads have been paved.

There’s not a problem in America today, crime, drugs, education, divorce, delinquency that wouldn’t be remedied, if we just had more Dirt Roads, because Dirt Roads give character.

People that live at the end of Dirt Roads learn early on that life is a bumpy ride.

That it can jar you right down to your teeth sometimes, but it’s worth it, if at the end is home…a loving spouse, happy kids and a dog.

We wouldn’t have near the trouble with our educational system if our kids got their exercise walking a Dirt Road with other kids, from whom they learn how to get along.

There was less crime in our streets before they were paved.

Criminals didn’t walk two dusty miles to rob or rape, if they knew they’d be welcomed by 5 barking dogs and a double barrel shotgun.

And there were no drive by shootings.

Our values were better when our roads were worse!

People did not worship their cars more than their kids, and motorists were more courteous, they didn’t tailgate by riding the bumper or the guy in front would choke you with dust & bust your windshield with rocks.

Dirt Roads taught patience.

Dirt Roads were environmentally friendly, you didn’t hop in your car for a quart of milk you walked to the barn for your milk.

For your mail, you walked to the mail box.

What if it rained and the Dirt Road got washed out? That was the best part, then you stayed home and had some family time, roasted marshmallows and popped popcorn and pony rode on Daddy’s shoulders and learned how to make prettier quilts than anybody.

At the end of Dirt Roads, you soon learned that bad words tasted like soap.

Most paved roads lead to trouble, Dirt Roads more likely lead to a fishing creek or a swimming hole.

At the end of a Dirt Road, the only time we even locked our car was in August, because if we didn’t some neighbor would fill it with too much zucchini.

At the end of a Dirt Road, there was always extra springtime income, from when city dudes would get stuck, you’d have to hitch up a team and pull them out.

Usually you got a dollar…always you got a new friend…at the end of a Dirt Road!

The Bible Lives

Generation follows generation
– yet it lives.

Nations rise and fall
– yet it lives.

Kings, dictators, rulers come and go
– yet it lives.

Torn, condemned, burned
– yet it lives.

Hated, despised, cursed
– yet it lives.

Doubted, suspected, criticized
– yet it lives.

Damned by atheists
– yet it lives.

Scoffed at by scorners
– yet it lives.

Exaggerated by fanatics
– yet it lives.

Misconstrued and misstated
– yet it lives.

Ranted and raved about
– yet it lives.

Its inspiration denied
– yet it lives.

Yet it lives
– as a lamp to our feet.

Yet it lives
– as a light to our paths.

Yet it lives
– as the gate to Heaven.

Yet it lives
– as a standard for childhood.

Yet it lives
– as a guide for youth.

Yet it lives
– as an inspiration for the matured.

Yet it lives
– as a comfort for the aged.

Yet it lives
– as food for the hungry.

Yet it lives
– as water for the thirsty.

Yet it lives
– as rest for the weary.

Yet it lives
– as light for the heathen.

Yet it lives
– as salvation for the sinner.

Yet it lives
– as grace for the believer.

To know it is to love it.
To love it is to accept it.
To accept it means life eternal.

Blowing a Story Out of Proportion

One sunny afternoon, Jeff was walking on the shores of a beautiful ocean with his son, Joshua. The air smelled so fresh and clean and the waves hit the shoreline in rythm to nature’s song. As the sea gulls flew overhead, some children were playing fetch with their dog in the distance.

As Jeff and Joshua walked, they heard a scream! A child had gone too far into the ocean and he was drowning. Jeff froze in fear for he could not swim! Joshua, on the other hand, was quite the swimmer and so he jumped into the ocean without a thought.

As the child’s screams worsened, a crowd started gathering on the shore. As Joshua maintained a steady stroke, he finally reached the hysterical child. He grabbed hold him by the neck and swam back to shore where he began mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. The crowd gathered round anxiously awaiting to see if the little boy would make it. What a joyous occasion it was when boy sputtered and began to breath! The crowd cheered and congratulated the hero for his brave rescue!

Being humble, Joshua ignored their praises and simply continued on his walk with his father. As they walked down the beach, Jeff turned around and noticed reporters and television media gathering round the crowd that had stayed behind. His thoughts went back to the year he had sent Joshua for swimming lessons! What a different set of circumstances it would have been had he not! Jeff was glad that he had not caved at Joshua’s fear of the water.

Have You Said Thank You Today?

Not only am I the wife of a veteran police officer, but I am the mother of two sons, one in the U.S. Army and one in the U.S. Marine Corps. My entire family has dedicated their lives to serving this wonderful country of ours. No matter what your thoughts are about these United States, you cannot deny the very foundation on which it was built. Our history books outline in detail the efforts in building such a Nation. The blood of our forefathers and fellow Americans was shed to make this a great country. Whether you disagree with the current “politics” or not, won’t you take a moment to thank God for these wonderful servants? Without them, our country would be in chaos!

Thank you, John, for protecting the streets of this city we have lived in for 22 years. Your eyes have seen more in one month than I shall ever see in a lifetime. Thank you to all you who serve in law enforcement! I am grateful to be able to walk the streets in a free country because you have worked hard to maintain law and order on those streets.

Thank you, Aaron, for serving in the U.S. Army. Although your adventure is just beginning, you are following in the footsteps of many, my father included. My father, Master Sgt. E. Beaulieu, served in WWII in Italy against Benito Mussolini. You, my son, walk in my Dad’s memory.

Thank you, PFC Nicholas Cardot, for serving our country! My prayers are with you. Thank you to Sgt. Steve Woods for working hard to recruit those in our area who will stand in defense for what we believe!

Thank you, Adam, for serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. I do not fear what man can do to you, or your brother, because you know the God of Glory.

Thank you, PFC T. Glaze for serving in the sand pit! Thank you, SSgt. Farrell for recruiting those in our area to join the Corps and learn to be Semper Fidelis.

Thank you, TSgt D. Plourde, for serving in the U.S. Air Force for so many years. Although you have had many years abroad as well as in the States, you have made the Air Force your home and career.

Thank you!

Thank you to all those who are in the U.S. Navy and protecting our home land. I know quite a few who are now and have been in the Navy but because I did not know their rank, I did not want to list their names.

So many men and women have dedicated their lives – whether for four years or twenty – each deserves our prayers and our gratitude. Without them, our country would open its gates to attack and anarchy. Just watch the evening news and you will see what it is like to live in a third world country like Iraq. Get on bended knee and thank God above for allowing us the awesome privilege of living in a free country!

Stand up and put your hand over your heart when you hear our National Anthem. Wear your flag pin boldly on your lapel without compromise. Recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the great Red, White, and Blue! Many have died defending her. Don’t trample on their memory by being complacent or allowing the liberals of the land to slowly take away our rights and freedoms. Where have the patriotic Americans of yester-year gone?

My country,’ tis of thee,
sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing;
land where my fathers died,
land of the pilgrims’ pride,
from every mountainside let freedom ring!

Putting Life Into Perspective

I posted this at John’s cancer blog but I thought more people would see here so here it is again :-) I received this in an email and it blessed me! Absolutely awesome! Just when you think that the cancer trial is too great to bear, you read something like this and it just puts things into perspective.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Now, THIS is really fascinating – it’s rather dazzling to see it presented this way.

I certainly thought this was enlightening. Beyond our sun … it’s a big universe.

Antares is the 15th brightest star in the sky. It is more than 1,000 light years away. How big are you?

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Now, try to wrap your mind around this….

This is the Hubble Telescope Ultra Deep Field Infrared view of countless “entire” galaxies billions of light-years away!

Below is a close up of one of the darkest regions of the photo above.

Humbling, isn’t it?

And yet, Someone knows how many hairs are on your head, and not even a single sparrow dies apart from His will (Matt 10:29-31)!

Now how big are you?

And how big are the things that upset you today?

And how big is your God?

(Job 33:12) Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.

Keep life in perspective. It’s all under control (Job 38 )

Still the fool says there is no God!

(Psa 53:1) [To the chief Musician upon Mahalath, Maschil, A Psalm of David.] The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.
