Infant Baptism

One of the greatest divisions between catholicism and everyone else is the dogma of infant baptism. The catholic catechism states:

“Born with a fallen human nature and tainted by original sin, children also have need of the new birth in Baptism to be freed from the power of darkness and brought into the realm of the freedom of the children of God, to which all men are called. The sheer gratuitousness of the grace of salvation is particularly manifest in infant Baptism. The Church and the parents would deny a child the priceless grace of becoming a child of God were they not to confer Baptism shortly after birth.” Pg. 319, #1250

Because this is an extremely important doctrine of the catholic church, let’s find out where this doctrine comes from. Is it from the Word of God or from tradition?

The catholic catechism tells us exactly when it began this practice:

“The practice of infant Baptism is an immemorial tradition of the Church. There is explicit testimony to this practice from the second century on…” Pg. 319, #1252

The catholic church admits that this is a tradition which began in the second century! So what was believed prior to that? Surely the the Scriptures have something to say. Every single account of baptism in the New Testament involved someone older, men and women, it came after salvation, and a body of water big enough for them to go down into.

~Matthew 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

Jesus was our example – this baptism was the beginning of His ministry on earth. The rest of the verses can be found in the Book of Acts – where the record of the beginnings of the church can be found. Let’s see what the records say:

~Acts 8:37-38 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. (37) And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. (38 )

~Acts 18:8 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.

~Acts 16:30-33 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? (30) And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. (31) And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. (32) And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. (33)

~Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

~Acts 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

What is not found in these verses? No babies and no sprinkling! What is found in these Scriptures? Men and women who were saved and then were baptized in a body of water. Do you see any record of a baby coming to the understanding of Christ’s Gospel? I don’t. One cannot repent from one’s sins if they do not understand. Babies are incapable of reasoning so how can they repent?

By the catholic church’s own admission, infant baptism is a tradition made my man in the second century. How can you not see that it contradicts the Scriptures?

~Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

~Mark 7:9 Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

Judgment will come to the catholic church in due time.

Compare the Candidates

Candidate Comparisons

Dr. Baldwin

Barack Obama

John McCain

The 2nd Amendment

Chuck Baldwin is the only candidate for president with a life long membership to Gun Owners of America, and holds an uncompromising position for the second amendment. Did you know that American citizens’ use a firearm to defend themselves more than 2.4 million times every year? And, of that number more than 192,000 are women defending themselves against sexual assault? In less than 8% of those occasions, was a shot actually fired? For those women, just having a gun was a great equalizer. I don’t know about the other guys but if my wife or daughters were threatened I would want them to be able to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights. F rating from Gun Owners of America. “…it’s not surprising then they get bitter. They cling to guns or religion…” F- rating from Gun Owners of America. Sponsored legislation that outlaws the private sale of firearms at gun shows.

Pro-Life

Pro-life is not a campaign slogan for me. As President, I will immediately work with Congress to pass the Sanctity of Life Act which would strip the appellate jurisdiction of the Supreme Court in all cases involving the life of an unborn child. When that happens the unborn child would once again be declared a person under the law and cannot be harmed without due process of law. Appointing Pro-life Supreme Court Justices will no longer give the Republican’s a phony rallying cry and the evil deeds of the U.S. Supreme Court on January 22, 1973 will be set aside. Not only does Barack Obama oppose the ban on partial-birth abortion, but he has also stated that he would not want his daughters to be “punished with a baby” because of an unwanted pregnancy. “But certainly in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support the repeal of Roe v. Wade . . . .”

Veterans

Military veterans have served in difficult and dangerous places and spend a lot of time away from their family and loved ones. They serve during the most productive years of their lives, years that can never be given back. The Chuck Baldwin Administration will work diligently to make certain that these veterans have their benefits restored and he will vigorously resist the attempt by any government agency to nullify or reduce earned benefits to veterans and their survivors, including but certainly not limited to, compensation, pensions, education, and health care. Senator Obama refused to back the “clean” bill that would fund nearly $1.8 billion worth of veterans health funding provisions including items for mental health services, counseling, trauma support teams, prosthetics and rehabilitation. Senator McCain opposed the “Truth Accountability Act”, which would have given the public access to MIA/POW files from WWII, the Korean War & the Vietnam War. He then introduced “The McCain Bill” which greatly restricted the types of information the public had access to in regard to MIA/POWs. Why add MORE restrictions to keep important information from family and friends?

Jesus’ Blood Provides Complete Atonement!

Either Jesus’ blood washes us from all sin or His blood doesn’t wash us from all sin. This is yet another conundrum for the catholic! What does the Bible say?

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. ~1 John 1:7

If you do not believe that you have been completely forgiven for all your sins, something is wrong. The Bible says in the previous verse:

~1 John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

The Apostle John tells us that if we say we have fellowship with God yet we do not believe that Jesus Christ has cleansed us from all sin, we are lying about our fellowship with Him and we do not possess the truth! Where lies the truth?

~Psalm 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

~John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

The Word of God, the Bible, contains the Truth, my friend. The truth is that there is no more atonement needed outside of the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed for your sins.

I found it interesting that when you do a word search to the two words, blood and Christ, there are eight verses with this combination! Eight is the Bible number meaning “new beginnings” – the New Covenant between God and His children! This excites my spirit!

~1 Corinthians 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

~Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

~Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

~1Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

~1Peter 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

~1John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

~1John 5:6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

~Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

Jesus Christ is the perfect lamb of God – the perfect sacrifice – the perfect redemption – the perfect atonement for your sin. There is nothing more to be done. There isn’t one iota of benefit from your works that will add to that perfect redemption.

Perfection is final – it is complete.

Who is the Rock?

Christ taught that a foundation that is built upon the Rock, Jesus Christ, will last. The catholic church teaches that Peter is the rock. Unfortunately for them, this viewpoint will fall apart.

~Deuteronomy 32:4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

~Deuteronomy 32:15 But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

~Deuteronomy 32:18 Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.

~2 Samuel 23:3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

~1 Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

There is no question in these four verses that the Rock is God, Jesus Christ. Not only do these verses emphatically state that the Rock is Christ, but the word Rock is capitalized! No matter how much the catholic church teaches that Peter is the rock, their doctrine is a direct contradiction to these Scriptures.  So why does the catholic church teach this?  Let’s look at the Scriptures:

~Matthew 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Peter’s statement (that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God) is that rock Christ spoke of in Matthew 16:18. No matter how hard Satan tries to convince mankind that there are many ways to Heaven, Christ is the only foundation – the only way to Heaven. It is that rock (that Jesus is God, the Saviour and Messiah) that will prevail. Not Peter.

~Matthew 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Albert Barnes worded it beautifully when in his commentary of this verse:

He that is in possession of it has the power of access, and has a general care of a house. Hence, in the Bible, a key is used as a symbol of superintendence an emblem of power and authority. See the Isa_22:22 note; Rev_1:18; Rev_3:7 notes. The kingdom of heaven here means, doubtless, the church on earth. See the notes at Mat_3:2. When the Saviour says, therefore, he will give to Peter the keys of the kingdom of heaven, he means that he will make him the instrument of opening the door of faith to the world the first to preach the gospel to both Jews and Gentiles. This was done, Acts 2:14-36; 10. The “power of the keys” was given, on this occasion, to Peter alone, solely for this reason; the power of “binding and loosing” on earth was given to the other apostles with him. See Mat_18:18. The only pre-eminence, then, that Peter had was the honor of first opening the doors of the gospel to the world.

God is a God of order. The Jews had always been the ones to have the salvation of the Lord and to bring it to others. The Gospel had to be preached to them first (see Romans 1:16, 2:9 and 2:10). The Jew would have to be convinced that the Holy Spirit and salvation they received was the same one the Gentiles were receiving. That is why Peter was given the honor of opening the doors of salvation to both Jews and Gentiles.

The early church had the Apostles to lead them into all truths of the Old Testament Scriptures. As the Gospels and Epistles were written (by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit – not by the Apostles “efforts”) along the way, they were read to the church. The “construction” of the New Testament Scriptures were meticulously cared for and treasured (see 2 Timothy 4:13). The early church definitely had Scriptures which were used by the Apostles and disciples to teach them in all things!

~2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

The catholic church leaders do not want their members reading the Word and interpreting for themselves because they fear that their members would be inspired with truth from the Holy Spirit!

A Question of Uncertainty

The average catholic struggles with this question:

If you were privileged to know that you were to die tonight at 7:30 p.m., would you honestly be able to say where you would spend eternity?

I answered this question 28 years ago with:

Well, I hope that I would go to Heaven.

This was most certainly a “hope so” salvation. It was not one that brought peace or comfort.

What my hope was in:

My hope was in the catholic church, not in salvation by faith through Jesus Christ. My hope lay in purgatory, where I was dependent on others to pray and have masses said for me to shorten my time there. My hope was in how I lived my life.

What my hope was not in:

My hope was not in Jesus Christ’s shed blood on the cross for my sin. My hope was not in the finished work of Christ. My hope was not in His work but in my own work.

Jesus Christ paid the debt for the punishment of our sins – He paid the debt for everyone. His blood was total payment, not partial payment. Salvation in Him brings peace and freedom of worry of where we will spend eternity. Our eternal destination is not dependent on anything we can do for ourselves. It is, however, dependent on accepting Christ’s finished work on the cross as full payment for our sin. This was His mission and He accomplished it fully.

~Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (8 ) Not of works, lest any man should boast. (9)

What is a Christian?

The word Christian(s) appears three times in the Bible. I have been told by a theologian that the Bible gives its own definitions, usually found in the same verse or those surrounding verse(s). So how does the Bible define the word Christian? The label was first attached to those believers in Antioch. So let’s go to these verses and see what made up a Christian:

~Acts 11:20-26 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus. (20) And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord. (21) Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch. (22) Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord. (23) For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord. (24) Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul: (25) And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. (26)

So the Christian church has these distinctions:

  1. They preached the Lord Jesus (verse 20)
  2. God’s hand was with them (verse 21)
  3. They led unbelievers to salvation and they turned to Christ (verse 21)
  4. News of their efforts was heard everywhere (verse 22)
  5. God’s grace was upon them (verse 23)
  6. They cleaved to the Lord (verse 23)
  7. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and faith (verse 24)
  8. They had a heart for the lost (verse 24)
  9. The church was the body of believers, not a structure (verse 26)
  10. They not only preached but they taught the people (verse 26)
  11. The christians were disciples (disciplined believers) (verse 26)

They preached the Lord Jesus Christ (verse 20)! They did not preach Mariology – they did not preach limbo or purgatory. They preached the Lord Jesus, salvation, faith, and as a result they were disciplined believers. God’s grace was upon them.

The catholic church has added so much to what was initially taught to the Christians in Antioch that they have muddied the waters. They have added the weight of works to the shoulders of their followers as a result of taking away from the perfect work of Jesus Christ. Jesus paid the price fully – there is no more payment to be made.

The catholic church does not preach faith alone in Jesus Christ as the way to salvation. They catholic church preaches that salvation comes from their church, through the sacraments and that Christ’s death on the cross is not sufficient but purgatory completes redemption. That is not to be found in these seven verses of Acts 11. Why? Again, it is because of magisterium and tradition. The foundation of catholicism is based on man-made doctrines, not the Scriptures. Therefore, they will be judged by their man-made doctrine and it will fall apart.

The Path to Heaven

Community service, helping the poor, working in a soup kitchen, giving money to good causes – these are all very good things! These are all very needful things. In fact, Christ taught us to help those less fortunate than we are. This should be at the top of every human being’s list of important things. However, none of these good deeds will change our standing with God.

God says that:

~Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

~Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

There is not one person on this earth who can say he/she is without any sin at all. If you have stolen anything, you are a thief. If you have told even a little white lie, you are a liar. If you have looked at another woman with desire, the Bible says you are an adulterer in your heart. If you admit to doing any of these things (and each represents breaking one of the Ten Commandments), then by your own admission you are a lying thief and adulterer. God gave us the Ten Commandments so that we could realize that we are sinners.

Man has the ability to discern for himself that he is a sinner. God has placed that ability in each of us. We know when we have done wrong. In turn, we try to make up for it by doing good things. These good things, in and of themselves, are good but they cannot make up for our sins. These works cannot save us from God’s impending judgment. That is the reason God sent Christ to die for our sins because we could never do enough good works to make up for our sin.

If you look at most religions today, there is some type of works involved. One either has to do penance or good works to cover his sin. This is not a new concept. Cain tried to cover his rebellion toward God’s will by offering a sacrifice from his garden rather than what God had commanded, which was a spotless lamb.

~Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (8 ) Not of works, lest any man should boast. (9)

~Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

~2 Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

Why, then, does mankind have the need to push the works-based salvation agenda? It is because of the same pride that Cain had. No one is going to tell me how I’m going to live my life. No one is going to tell me that I can’t go to heaven my way. My offering is just as good as his!

The truth of the matter is that there is nothing that we can do to earn heaven. You cannot earn a gift. Ephesians 2:8 is quite clear that salvation is a gift. You cannot work for a gift. You can work for money – you can work for food – but you cannot work for a gift. This is the simple truth. The Father gave mankind a gift through His Son. What kind of a gift was He? He paid the penalty for our sins. God knew we could not do it on our own. We sin every single day. There’s no way that a tally could be kept comparing our good works against our sins! That is silly and the Word of God does not support that.

~2 Thessalonians 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

Just what is the truth? Where can this truth be found? Who has the truth? Jesus had the answers to these questions:

~John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

We cannot work our way to heaven, my friend. We have a choice – do we accept this gift that the Father has given to us through Christ Jesus? Or, do we continue to work our way to heaven and find out at the judgment that we are wrong? The Lord Jesus Christ paid our penalty with His own blood! We have been saved from judgment and its accompanying penalty which is eternity burning in hell.

~Romans 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Once you have settled your salvation and accepted Christ’s blood as payment for your sins, you receive the Holy Spirit and you are reunited with God. You are a new creature – you are born again. After salvation, you then begin to serve a new Master, the Lord God. A servant works hard for his master and so should we for our Master.

~Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

The works we did prior to salvation were dead works – they amounted to nothing. But now we serve the living God and our work for Him should be evident. The world should know that we are Christians by our works – not works need for salvation but works that come after salvation.

James talks about the works that come after salvation.

~James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

~James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Notice it is works along with faith and not works alone. Remember the account of the Good Samaritan? That was an excellent example of someone saying they had faith but their works did not prove it.

One cannot be saved without faith, Ephesians 2:8-9 make that quite clear. Therefore, after salvation one should be working for the Master. One should be witnessing to others and sharing the Gospel. One should be the “light” in a very dark world. Anyone who says they are born again and yet doesn’t do anything to serve the Lord should check out his spiritual barometer.

It is ashame that there are many who believe that their works go hand-in-hand with their salvation. If they only compared their beliefs with the Word of God, they would see that they are sincerely wrong. To state such a thing is to say that Christ’s death was not enough – the Father’s gift was not enough – and that we have to “add” our works to the salvation process. To do so takes away from the Perfect Lamb of God.

Great Quote from John Bunyan

Read and read again, and do not

despair of help to understand

the will and mind of God though

you think they are fast locked up

from you. Neither trouble your

heads though you have not

commentaries and exposition.

Pray and read, read and pray;

for a little from God is better

than a great deal from men.

Happy 4th of July!!!

I want to express my deepest gratitude to all those who are serving in our military! Without our men and women in the armed forces, we would not be the great nation we are today. I am saddened at the war protestors because they attack our military as if they personally were the decision makers. Our military goes where they are sent. They deserve our support – they deserve our prayers – they deserve our gratitude and love!

I dedicate my post today to my sons and to my dear husband. Although my husband did not serve in the military, he has served our community for almost 30 years. My husband and sons are my heroes and so are the rest of those fine men and women of the United States Marine Corps, Army, Air Force, Navy, Reservists and Coast Guard. I am certain there are many others I have failed to mention but please know that this lady is grateful for the hard work and dedication of all of you!

Aaron, my oldest, is in the U.S. Army and is currently at Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas for his Advanced Training in Signal Intelligence. Aaron accepted Christ at 6 years old! Such a young boy but a tender heart! He has overcome many obstacles to get where he is today! He has been a faithful son and we are so proud of him! God is so Good!

Adam, our youngest, is a Lance Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps and is currently stationed in Okinawa as a Forward Observer in Field Artillery. His testimony is an awesome one! It is but the grace of God that he is where he is today! Adam was born again when he was 9 years old. He’s had his own sets of obstacles but the Lord had His hand on this young man! To God be the glory, great things He hath done! :-)

You can’t tell we are proud parents, can you?

John was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in February. He has overcome much in the last few months and remains positive. I am so blessed to be his wife! John has been a police officer since 1975 and had just put in for his retirement, which was to happen May 1st of this year. In preparation for John’s retirement, we sold our house last October and had downsized to a two-bedroom apartment while we were waiting for the “big date” to move to Oregon! The date has been pushed back a couple of times but we know that all things work together for good to them that love the Lord!

Again, I thank the Lord for these men in my life! I thank Him also for all of you who have served or are serving now. You are my heroes! I am grateful for what you are doing! Americans have the freedom to speak their minds even if it means hurting other Americans. It is a tragedy that our military is not revered as they once were.

I know that there are still patriots out there. Twice our Marine has gone to Olive Garden and both times someone anonymous has paid for his meal! Even if we cannot afford to do something as generous as this, we can say a simple “thank you” to those military men and women God puts in our path. I am humbled by their dedication as well as their love for their country. God bless each of you who have served or are still serving!

Happy Fourth of July!
